Abstract

Successful dental implant placement requires adequate height and width of bone. Vertical and horizontal bone resorption of edentulous alveolar ridge is a major cause resulting in failure of dental implant placement. There are several methods for recovery of alveolar bone loss. But guided bone regeneration has been usually used. Guided bone regeneration is the method inducing the differentiation and proliferation of osteoblast, using barrier membrane for preventing the migration of epithelium. Barrier membrane must satisfy criteria such as biocompatibility, tissue integration, cell occlusion, mechanical stability, clinical manageability. We compared results of guided bone regeneration using non-absorbable barrier membrane(titanium mesh) and absorbable barrier membrane(collagen membrane) in mandible of one patient. In newly formed tissue biopsy, we found new bone formation. In one patient with atrophied alveolar ridge, guided bone regeneration using titanium mesh and collagen membrane was performed. In this case, favorable results was obtained, so we report it with review of relevant literature.
